New Thrift Store Hours

Bingen Thrift Store extends store hours beginning May 3

Second Hand Rose is accepting donations

Local thrift store Second Hand Rose reopened in April at its location inside the Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) building at 115 W Steuben Street in Bingen. It is the second attempt to get back to business as normal during the pandemic, after the first reopening last October was cut short by a resurgence of COVID-19.

As of May 3, 2021 new store hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Friday and Saturday the store is closed from 2:00-2:30 p.m. for lunch. The store layout allows space for people to maintain social distancing and, as a continued safety measure, shoppers are required to wear face masks.

The store offers quality gently used clean clothing, furniture, and household items at a value. Gallardo said that, as a nonprofit, Second Hand Rose is able to keep prices low and it has a unique voucher program that allows individuals and families to shop for necessities.  Once a year, those in need can receive vouchers of $20 per individual family member up to $80 total for the entire family. They can use this credit to purchase any items in the store such as clothing, shoes, kitchen appliances and other household items. Additionally, shoppers can also take advantage of the Frequent Shoppers program which allows them to build up credit for each $5 that they spend at the store.

Limited donations are welcome and the need is greatest right now for small kitchen appliances and small furniture. Space is limited, so the store is unable to accommodate large pieces. Gallardo asks that donors check in first with store staff to discuss the items they would like to donate. “We appreciate that people bring things for donation, but we need to be sure they are clean and in good condition,” she said. She emphasized that the staff does not have access to a warehouse for storage or to washing or drying machines, so they must use discretion on what they are able to accept.

Second Hand Rose is a vital service which provides a safe environment to shop and donate locally. Proceeds from the store help support its staffing as well as other programs of the Community Action Agency. Visit https://www.wagap.org/second-hand-rose for more details.
