Prevention programs

WAGAP is a local leader in prevention of substance misuse.

As a result of the legalization of marijuana and the privatization of alcohol sales, marijuana and alcohol availability and use has increased, while community norms have become more favorable toward substance use.

WAGAP provides management, staff, and oversight for Our Klickitat, a county-wide coalition bringing together youth and adult community members to develop strategies, mobilize resources, and raise awareness to reduce and prevent youth substance use in Klickitat County.

Our Klickitat began in 2016, when community leaders met to strategize about how to reduce youth substance misuse.

Our Klickitat unites three coalitions and a Tribal Commission to address youth substance use and misuse.

Together, we support prevention interventions aimed at shifting community norms, reducing youth access to alcohol and marijuana, and boosting parental and peer disapproval of youth substance use.

In the Goldendale School District, WAGAP works with CPAKC, the Coalition for Preventing Abuse in Klickitat County.

CPAKC builds healthy communities in Klickitat County, and reduces the risks and harm caused by substances of abuse. CPAKC does this by increasing awareness, reducing access, and building pathways to wellness and healthy choices for the community.

In the White Salmon School Districte, WAGAP works with K-LINK, a collaboration of community partners working together to better connect their services and better serve community members in western Klickitat and eastern Skamania counties.

Through K-LINK, WAGAP offers a state-funded program designed to support efforts to address substance use issues in students and youth. In White Salmon, the project is a partnership between WAGAP, White Salmon Valley School District, K-LINK, ESD 112, and other community partners.
