From a Cold Tent to a Warm Shelter
Let me tell you about Angela, a little baby you’re helping through our shelter. Angela’s mom and dad, Maria and Bobby (not their real names) lost their housing in the spring. Maria was expecting their first child in the fall.
They moved into a large tent, which was not too bad… for a few days. When they looked for housing, there was nothing they could afford.
Living in the tent went from a few days to a few months.
Then, Maria went into labor. How could she bring a newborn home to a tent? She was scared, and so was Bobby. Then, at the hospital, they heard about Washington Gorge Action Program shelters.
WAGAP's shelters are usually full, but miraculously, a spot opened up for Maria, Bobby, and Angela that day!
Thanks to your support, a warm room at one of WAGAP's shelters was ready.
As I write this, little baby Angela is 2 months old, warm and cozy at the shelter with Maria. The staff at the shelter report that "She is the cutest little baby!" Bobby goes to work every day. Staff and other residents, who were already being careful, are being even more diligent with Covid protocols.
Our staff is helping Angela’s family find stable housing, probably in Lyle or Goldendale, where rent is more affordable. They’ll be farther from Bobby’s work, but they will be warm and safe. (If you have a rental property available, please call Lori at 509-493-2662 ext. 212)
You can help Angela’s family, and many others who are struggling, right now!
You can give a family a safe place to sleep.
You can provide food at our five food banks in Klickitat and Skamania Counties.
Because you give, Angela and her family, and many others, will sleep in safety at a Washington Gorge Action Programs shelter.
You’ll know you’re meeting real needs! Not just for a day, or even a few weeks. Through Washington Gorge Action Programs, you’ll give a family life-transforming help--including stable housing. That’s something every person deserves.
So please, while it’s on your mind, make a generous donation. You’ll know you’re giving real help, and you’ll feel great! Thank you so much for caring enough to act.
Yours for a community where everyone has a warm home,
Leslie Naramore
Executive Director
